He wiped the blood from his blade with a tattered scrap of what appeared to have been a “baby on board” t-shirt. From the look of things, a baby hasn’t been on board for a long time. His eyes scanned the horizon like a hawk or an eagle or a robot designed to scan things in great detail. He could see a great dust cloud growing in the valley to easy. Another band of slime raiders riding in one their great solar powered mechanical spiders most likely. He finished wiping the blade and ducked down behind a nearby hunk of nuclear detritus. Such rubble common here, but this one was different. It seemed to emit a faint hum, as if filled with purring kittens. It was cold, too, damn cold. He pressed his grizzled and sun baked hand against a raised square that glowed a faint green and to his surprise it retreated at his touch. The strange machine sprang to life, grinding and sputtering until a strange green cylinder shot out of a lower compartment. The man went and grabbed it.off the ground, being careful to stay out of sight of the nearby raiders. He dusted off the strange object and found it to be cold as well. What were these symbols? “Mtn Dew?” It was in the old tongue, from before the bombs, and could not discern its meaning. As the slime bandits lurched into view, he tucked it into the catskin pouch slung over his shoulder, gripped his blade and prepared for the worst.
